So you want to know a little about Jennifer Lynn Cary.
Well, here's the scoop. I am actually a child of the King, cleverly
disguised as an author, elementary school teacher, speaker, and, oh,
yeah, a wife and mother. I have been married to my handsome husband,
Phil, for over twenty-five years and we have three beautiful daughters:
Jaime, Alyssa, and Meg - no brag, just fact (to quote Will Sonnett). We
also are the proud parents of a wonderful son, Ian, who passed away at
the age of fifteen due to cystic fibrosis. For more information about
him that just might make you smile, check out my Ianisms page.
I'm a direct descendant of Davy Crockett and a member of ACFW, RWA,
and CLASS. I have been writing as far back as I can remember. In fact,
somewhere I still have a copy of my very first story. My mother had
just gotten a new typewriter and started taking a writing
correspondence course. I figured I could write too, and for a seven
year old, it wasn't too bad. That eventually led to writing plays for
the neighborhood kids, and more stories, and more plays, and, well, you
get the idea.
Fast-forward about thirty years. After my youngest (who
is now twenty) was old enough for preschool, I rejoined the
workforce--teaching in the classroom next door to her. Occasionally I
got stumped looking for a book to go with what we were doing so I would
write my own story. I even wrote the Christmas programs the two years I
taught there.
I fell in love with teaching and went back to school to
finish out my degree. The funny thing is, while taking an Ed. Psych.
class, a professor polled us asking where we each planned to be in five
years. Being the smart aleck I am, I informed him I planned to be
lounging at the pool at an exclusive resort, resting from a highly
successful book signing for my Great American Novel, which would be
number one on the New York Best Sellers list.
Five years later God reminded me, much to my embarrassment. Are you ever going to start that book?
I had always wanted to write about my ancestors (I did tell you Davy
Crockett is my great, great, great grandfather, right?) and finally put
pen to paper. Two years later, I held my finished manuscript in my hot
little hands and set out in search of a publisher. And the rest is
history. Well, except for the part about writing the sequel and so on.
But, I am working on that.
I've kind of glossed over some things in relating this
to you. But something I don't want to gloss over is God's hand in all
this. I could not take a breath without Him. My faith in my Lord Jesus
is what sustains, motivates, and keeps me sane (relatively speaking).
If you do not know Jesus as your personal Savior and would like to,
you've only to reach out to Him. Praying is just talking with God. Tell
Him what is on your heart. Ask Him to forgive you, and accept His
forgiveness. Ask Him to live in your heart and be the Lord of your
life. That's it. That's how you come to know Jesus as your Savior. It
is that easy because He did all the work. But, now I advise you to do a
few important things. Tell someone. Don't hide what God is going to do
in your life. It will never be the same. Find a Bible believing
congregation and join in the fellowship and worship. Begin to have a
daily quiet time where you can read the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to
help you understand what you read. And, just like any other good
friend, keep in touch with Jesus--pray. He's not so worried about form
as the motivation and sincerity of your heart. As you read the Bible
and attend church, you will learn more. However, this is enough to get
you started. Feel free to let me know if you have made this decision
and I will pray for you. And, as always, I wish for you…
Abundant blessings!
